With growing pressure on Auckland's wastewater infrastructure over the past decade, Auckland Council and Watercare set out to create a public-facing platform that would empower locals to make safer decisions about water recreation, especially as climate events and urban development continue to put strain on our coastlines and waterways.
Built on the Moata digital twin platform, developed by Mott MacDonald, Safeswim combines real-time environmental data, predictive water-quality models, and overlays of alerts and conditions into a single, easy-to-use interface. The front end features an interactive map with colour-coded pins (red, green, black) indicating swim safety, updated as frequently as every 15 minutes.
For more than eight years, Daylight has partnered with Auckland Council and Safeswim to evolve the product strategy, user experience, and platform. Beyond the technology, Daylight also shaped the brand strategy and creative platform, Decide with Safeswim, delivering seasonal campaigns across Auckland Council's owned channels, out-of-home, and digital media.
