The Fiji Sun, one of the Pacific’s most well-known print media institutions, has completed a major digital transformation, launching a new digital-first publishing platform in partnership with Daylight (New Zealand) and Bastion Digital (Australia).
It marks a bold new chapter for the Fiji Sun, which has been at the forefront of journalism in Fiji for over 25 years. The organisation has reimagined its newsroom and business model, stepping confidently into the digital age with a platform that positions it at the forefront of Pacific media.

The collaborative project brought together deep expertise in media transformation and digital innovation. Bastion Digital led the business transformation and editorial strategy, guiding the Fiji Sun through modern newsroom practices and delivering intensive training to support a future-facing content operation. Daylight, renowned for its design and technology capabilities, led the development of the new publishing platform, one that puts powerful storytelling, audience experience, and modern monetisation tools at the core.
“Our collaboration with the Fiji Sun is a powerful example of what’s possible when traditional media are empowered to reimagine their futures,” said Jenni Ryall, at Bastion Digital. “This is not just a website upgrade, it’s a complete organisational shift. From editorial workflows to data-driven strategy, the Fiji Sun is now fully equipped to thrive in a digital media landscape.”
A platform for growth and innovation

The new Fiji Sun platform is more than a digital presence; it is a full-service publishing ecosystem, allowing the news organisation to imagine a thriving future beyond print. The site features real-time news updates, sports results, and a dedicated Fijian-language section to serve a broad and diverse audience. The transformation also unlocks new commercial opportunities: dynamic advertising models, sponsored content, bundled print and digital offerings, newsletters, podcasts, and video journalism are now part of the Fiji Sun’s revenue arsenal.
Future phases will introduce subscription models and first-party audience data strategies, laying the foundation for long-term sustainability in a rapidly evolving media environment.
“In an environment where independent media plays a critical role and press freedoms continue to evolve, this project is a landmark moment for Pacific journalism,” said Rosi Doviverata, acting Publisher/CEO of the Fiji Sun. “We’ve redefined what’s possible for media in the region. I’m incredibly proud of our team and grateful to our partners at Bastion and Daylight for enabling our ambitious vision.”
“For 25 years, the Fiji Sun has been a cornerstone of Fijian journalism,” said Lee Lowndes, CEO of Daylight. “This new platform propels them from a basic digital footprint to a premium, agile, and scalable news service. It’s a world-class foundation built for growth, innovation, and a deeper connection with audiences.”
